# Positive offset approach to the screen center Offset = 0 # To displace the center from the real center. Global f_p # position of the flash stimulus (right or left according experiment settings). Global s_p # position of the text and image stimuli (left or right according experiment settings). This function will calculate the position for the text and image stimuli and the position for the flash stimuli depending on the side of presentation choosen by the experimenter.

# Allow to use clear text in the initial info dialog windowĮxpInfo = u"l" if expInfo = "l" else u"r"ĭel expInfo # Change some expInfo values to simpler one This way of separating a variable name and the corresponding information displayed to user allow for easy change to the text displayed without having to change things everywhere in the experiment. This function is used to adapt the variable name and the information retrieved from the information dialog. The name associated with the variable corresponding to what the user has selected ( Stimuli side (l or r for left/right)) is not practical to handle in the code of the experiment. At the beginning of the experiment, an information dialog is displayed to allow the experimenter to choose the side of presentation of the stimuli. In the def_set_exp_info code component, one can find the definition of the set_exp_info() function. The last routine wait for a key press to end the experiment.įunctions are grouped by theme in the Begin Experiment part of each code component. The fourth routine then display three images on the same side words where previously while also displaying the flashing pattern on the other side. In the third routine, three words are displayed on one side while a flashing pattern is shown on the other side. The second routine show a soft grey square surrounded with a darker grey border on the left and on the right side of the window and wait for a keyboard key to be pressed to continue. The first routine is used to initialise experiment data. The experiment is divided in five routines. More detailled informations could be found in PsychoPy - Display continuous flash and PsychoPy - Image or text presentation fade in and fade out.

This note won't enter into the details of how to display a flashing pattern or text and image stimuli. On the other hand, words and then images will scroll. On the one hand, a flashing pattern will be displayed inside the frame. One on the left side of the window and the other on the right.

The script will use a 820 pixels wide window and will show two frames. This note assumes that you understand the basic operation of PsychoPy and have some knowledge of programming with Python. The animated pattern will only appear when running the later.

You can download an archive of the PsychoPy documents described here ( psychopy-stereo-display.zip). The script described here has been tested on OS X 10.9.5 with PsychoPy v1.80.06 and v1.81.00.

PsychoPy is a software used in experimental psychology and cognitive neuroscience to present and control stimuli. The script presented here show how to use PsychoPy to display such information. For example, continuous flash suppression experiments show a stimulus to one eye of a subjet while showing an animated pattern to the other eye. Some experiments need to show stimuli that change at different speed in two parts of the screen.
